How does economy affects obesity?

This is an interesting topic because there are a large percentage of the population of the United States and Puerto Rico who are overweight. Why does this happen? Well there are many reasons why there is a high percent of obesity. Many of us keep a stressful life in which we have no time to cook and we need to go to the nearest fast-food so we proceed with the tasks of our daily life. The economy is in crisis, thus many of us are forced to buy low-quality food which contains too much saturated fat, which is not beneficial to the human body. This is coupled with depression and frustration of having little money to support the expenses of a family, this is where another important part is born the lack of encouragement and lack of exercise is something that will eventually make us obese or fat. We all know that if we had a better economy we would have higher incomes and lower unemployment rate, then most people can have access to better quality products. For example, a person who has a good income could eat at Subway for lunch and eat a healthy meal low in fat with fresh vegetables and meats. However, a person who has a tight budget would have to go and eat at Fast-Foods like BK, McDonald's or Wendy's among others to save some money by buying food from the dollar menu which are full of saturated fat and high calories. Another example is where a family with nice income could pay their debts and have money to buy fresh salads and fruits and might as well buy the best quality food which would be of benefit for their health. On the other hand a family with a low income would be forced to buy canned vegetables and lower-priced and lower quality products because they have to eat to live and can’t afford better quality meals. To conclude, what I mean is that I have gone through this, and I want to add my two cents, because there are many people who do not see this side of the coin.

I do agree with you. When trying to cut food costs, the food choices often lead to obesity.
